Club Competitions

Non-members may take part - but cannot win any trophy.
Special events are Party nights, Simultaneous Pairs, qualifying events for external competitions and single events for which a club trophy is awarded. Scores obtained in such events are excluded from events 1, 3, 11 and 14.
An attendance record over the competition period of 67% is required for events 1, 2, and 3, and 50% for events 5 and 12.
Handicaps Apply to events 5, 6, 8, and 12.

1. THE PREMIER TROPHY. Wednesday event.
Awarded to the pair with the highest average of the calendar year.
2007 Holders: Don Craven & John Kitteridge.
2. THE RIMMER CUP.Thursdays.
Awarded to the pair judged by the Committee to have shown the most improvement over the previous calendar year.
2007 Holders: Jean Clarkson & Roger Dew.
3. THE GRAND PRIX SHIELD. Wednesday event.
Highest Match-Point total from six club nights September to March inc.
2008 Holders: Cheryl & Dave Duddell.
4. THE MIXED PAIRS SHIELD. Monday or Wednesday event.
Awarded to the winners of the YCBA Mixed Pairs heat. Normally held end of March/early April.
2008 Holders: John Barrett & Joan Tucker.
5. THE HANDICAP CUP. Wednesday event.
Played on the second Wednesday of November.
2007 Holders: John Hanson & John Kitteridge.
6. THE CHARITY TROPHY. Monday/Wednesday/Thursday.
Played in January or February over three consecutive club nights (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). Awarded for the highest percentage score during the three nights. Subject to committee approval, the winners may choose the Charity.

7. LADIES & MEN'S PAIRS CUPS.
Normally held in May.
2007 Holders: Cheryl Duddell & Audrey Jeal, Kevin Hawkins & John Crouch.
8. THE HOSPICE SHIELD. Monday or Wednesday event.
Held late June. All contributions donated to YEP Half & Half Appeal.
2007 Holders: Jack Robinson & Basil Huntley.
9. PRESIDENTS CUP.
Awarded to the winners of the Christmas Party bridge.
2007 Holders: Audrey & Mike Jeal.
10. CLUB INDIVIDUAL.
Awarded to the winner of the club heat of Yorkshire individual event.
2007 Holder: Don Craven.
11. REMEMBRANCE TROPHY.Monday/Wednesday/Thursday.
Awarded to member gaining the most master points issued by the Club during the calendar year.
2007 Holder: Jim Walton.
12. NOVEMBER HANDICAP CUP.Mondays.
Played for on a Monday in November.
2007 Holders: John Andrews & Maureen Denison.
13. SWISS TEAMS. Sunday nearest to 23rd Sept.
Awarded to top all Garforth team who have not won a major prize in the event.
2007 Holders: Ted & Alma Bond, Joy Young & Jack Appleyard.
14. JACKPOT SALVERS. Monday/Wednesday/Thursday.
Three trophies, one for each night, awarded to member gaining the most master points issued by the Club during the calendar year on the appropriate night.
2007 Holders:
  Monday: Kevin & Elisabeth Hawkins.
  Wednesday: Kevin Hawkins.
  Thursday: Mike Round & Clive Davies.
15. CRAVEN TROPHY. (Teams)
Awarded to winners of the qualifying event for the Waddington Cup.
2007 Holders: Frank Liggins & Dennis Gudgeon, Jean McIntosh & Nilar Hey.
16. BARBARA RIMMER TROPHY.Thursday
To be played at Halliday Court on the last Thursday in July. Regular Halliday Court attenders shall be given preference when taking entries. Any players may participate but the trophy shall be awarded to the highest placed pair both of whom are below the rank of three star master.
